"Thirty-six years since the last passenger train made its way from Boston to Portland, Maine, The Downeaster will return to the rails in time for the winter holidays.""Nationwide, train travel is reaching levels not seen since The Downeaster's whistle last blew. By the end of September, the last week for which statistics were available, Amtrak's ticket sales were up 7 percent nationally, and 36 percent on the high-speed Acela Express, which runs between Boston's South Station and Washington, offcials said."
