Learn to get more done, better, with Project Management for Urban Planning

Professional Development Institute, Rutgers University

Budgets are smaller. Planners are expected to do more with less. Everyone wants more accountability and less risk. Project Management for Urban Planning can help.

This online course from the Bloustein Online Continuing Education Program is designed for busy planners who want to learn better ways to handle teams and complex projects. Whether you are a new team leader or an experienced director, this course can help.

Participants will learn:
*The role and responsibilities of the project manager in planning projects
*The project lifecycle and how it relates to planning projects
*Management terminology and tools (especially important for working with interdisciplinary and interdivisional teams)
*To build solid scopes of work, budgets, and schedules
*Leadership and communication tips for project success

Project Management runs from October 21 to December 5. You can participate at your convenience from virtually any computer with an Internet connection. It combines the convenience of "learn at your own pace" courses with the peer learning of face-to-face continuing education. In fact, what learners like most about their classes are learning with and from professionals from around the country.
The course instructor, Linda Amato, AICP, is a seasoned consulting planner and planning commissioner in Seattle who has managed many large and complex projects. She specializes in managing, designing and preparing planning and environmental documents for transportation projects. She has focused on interpreting complex passenger and freight rail operations and engineering information for the general public and decision-makers. Linda has extensive experience working with agency and community stakeholders -- keeping them informed of project activities as well as soliciting information and input as necessary. As a planning commissioner, Linda is intricately involved in transportation, land use, zoning and community planning issues.

Project Management is one of six BOCEP courses starting in late October. The others are:
*Brownfields Redevelopment
*Current Trends in Land Use Law
*Park Planning and Design in the 21st century
*Retail Market Analysis
*Site Planning Analysis
