USC Ross Minority Program in Real Estate Information Session
USC Ross Minority Program in Real Estate
The Ross Minority Program in Real Estate is an intensive technical training for real estate professionals looking to gain expertise in urban real estate development and finance. The Ross Program offers an integrated, practical curriculum that focuses on a wide range of issues associated with real estate. The sessions are fast paced and incorporate various teaching methods, such as guest lectures, field trips, panel discussions, case studies, and group projects. The goal is for students to implement their newly acquired skills in either their current professional careers or begin entrepreneurial projects that will promote the economic revitalization of emerging areas.
Real Estate was recently treated as if it were an ordinary financial asset or commodity, and so investors used standards methods of financial analysis for making investment decisions about real estate. Many were lured into thinking that clever financing could overcome deficiencies in real estate due diligence. This produced catastrophe, and underscores the importance of an education that specializes in teaching the aspects of real estate that make it different from other assets.
At USC, we believe those with strong real estate educations are less likely to make these sorts of mistakes. The Ross Program emphasizes the importance of being prudent when the world is exuberant and aggressive when the world is depressed.
