The International Economic Development Council (IEDC) presents the 2009 Web Seminar Series – a cost-effective, professional development program. The series provides an online environment for economic developers to learn about cutting-edge research, techniques, and tools that are prevalent in the field.

This web seminar will feature two different perspectives-the community and the international consultant on international marketing. Gerald Gordon will provide the perspective of how an American county markets itself internationally and the lessons he has learned from over a decade experience. Providing a global perspective, Judith Walker will discuss at how regions can develop effective messages that resonate with international investors.

Dr. Gerald L. Gordon is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Economic Development Authority in Fairfax County, Virginia, one of the largest office space markets in the United States. He has been with the FCEDA since late 1983. In that time, office space in the county grew from 32 million square feet to more than 105 million square feet and jobs in the county grew from 243,000 to more than 600,000.

Judith Walker is Marketing and Operations Director with OCO Global and has over 15 years marketing experience. Prior to joining OCO, Judith was an International Marketing Manager at Invest Northern Ireland, the economic development agency for the region and one of the leading UK agencies. As well as leading on the corporate marketing activities of OCO, Judith also works with EDO clients in an advisory capacity on their marketing strategy and planning as well as development of sales propositions. In the past year, Judith has worked with or developed materials for agencies including Yorkshire Forward, Invest Northern Ireland, and Invest in Tuscany.
