The International Economic Development Council's 2009 Annual Conference is the single most important conference to attend during this global economic crisis. Serious times call for a serious conference. This year's conference will be an unprecedented experience with highly relevant sessions and top speakers tackling the tough issues economic developers are facing now. Themed "Renewable Communities: Leveraging your Competitive Resources," our sessions will examine key economic crisis topics, and follow four tracks:
RENEWABILITY
This track will take an in-depth look at sustainability economic development strategies, clean tech development, natural resource issues relevant to economic development (e.g. water), brownfields redevelopment, green construction and other sustainable economic tools and strategies.
RESILIENCY
This track will highlight best practices in responding to globalization, building, retaining and retooling workforce skills, regional approaches, marketing, disaster preparedness and other strategies that help communities adapt to change and manage a more volatile economy.
REVITALIZATION
This track examines innovative and tried and true methods for property (re)development and reuse, neighborhood development, financing and transportation and infrastructure investment.
RESOURCEFULNESS
This track will focus on entrepreneurship, innovation, technology transfer and commercialization and the importance of partnerships with universities and other research institutions, as well as resourceful ways to develop local equity options and cutting edge practices for nurturing emerging new technologies and industries.
