Are You Going To The Form Based Codes 201 Workshop This Month?
Rutgers University, Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy
Planners, architects and land use professionals from around the United States are going to Rutgers University in New Jersey later this month to learn how to design form based zoning codes. Form-based codes are innovative ways to promote quality architectural character of a place while making buildings more flexible for changing market conditions. Some of the nation's top practitioners and thinkers in this subject will be teaching in Form Based Codes 201, October 31 and November 1, at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ.
In this intensive workshop, participants will learn how to design codes for greenfields, infill projects, rural towns and redevelopment areas; create a regulating plan; and address other architectural and regulatory issues. There will be exercises, discussions and question-and-answer sessions. Participants will also get a thick book of resources, so they can start working on form-based zoning when they get back to their offices. Among the trainers will be Peter Katz, author of the influential book The New Urbanism.
Rutgers University will submit the program for accreditation under the American Institute of Certified Planners' Certification Maintenance program. Architects can receive continuing education credits from the American Institute of Architects.
The class also offers excellent opportunities for diverse professionals to share ideas and build their professional networks. There's plenty to do in New Brunswick, which has three theaters, several restaurants and Rutgers (the largest university in New Jersey). New York and Philadelphia are both within an hour's train ride. New Brunswick is a 25-minute train ride from Newark Liberty International Airport.
The program costs $750. There is a $25 discount for members of the American Planning Association, Latinos and Planners, The Leading Institute Network, the Bloustein Online Continuing Education Network and alumni of the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy.
Form-based Codes 201 is produced by a partnership of the Bloustein School's Center for Government Services and Professional Development Institute, and the Form Based Codes Institute.
