Director of Planning and Community Development

Extensive experience in planning, community development, redevelopment and growth management programs in a public sector or public sector related organization must be evident in the background of the successful candidate. This includes a stable history of ten years in progressively responsible positions within complex customer service
driven organizations that provide services in communities dealing with development and redevelopment issues. Experience in organizations with staff size and overall operating budgets similar to or larger than the City of Baytown is preferred. Education should include a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Community Development, Public Administration, Architecture, Engineering or a related field along with an AICP designation. A Master's Degree in Community Development or Regional Planning degree is preferred. Candidates should have knowledge
of principles and practices of urban and city planning as applied to city planning and development; economic
factors that influence community development; zoning, annexation and building inspection techniques. Additional
experience in the creation of procedures and development ordinances used by a city council in a metropolitan setting is desired. A thorough knowledge of building inspection, code enforcement, and automated systems related to planning and zoning issues (CADD, GIS, and e-government technology) is preferred. Possession of, or the ability to
obtain, a valid Texas driver's license is required.
