The county of San Mateo approved a plan to bring together its trails into a 450 mile regional open space network.
"The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors approved a plan this week that will triple the number of miles of public trails on the Peninsula. The plan is hailed as the first time that the county has taken a regional approach to trail planning, which should benefit both trail users and the environment. Notably, the plan includes support for the San Francisco Bay Trail, a 400-mile loop around the Bay which is currently about halfway completed. The approval of the plan this week will allow county lands to be used for the trail, however, completion of the trail in the county is still contingent upon acquiring land from large companies or agencies owningland along the Bay."
