Cal Poly MCRP Student Awarded Prestigious Fellowship in Washington, D.C.
SAN LUIS OBISPO, CALIFORNIA - Esther Valle, who recently graduated from Cal Poly with a Master of City and Regional Planning degree, has been awarded a Public Policy Fellowship with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) in Washington, D.C. She is one of a group of less than 20 in the nation to receive this award, and is the only recipient to hold a Master of City and Regional Planning degree.
"This is a wonderful validation of the quality of students entering Cal Poly's graduate MCRP program. It recognizes their work and their potential at the national level," said Cal Poly's City and Regional Planning Department Head Bill Siembieda.
The nine-month Fellowship Program (late August to late May) provides an opportunity for up to 20 talented Latinos from across the country to gain hands-on experience at the national level in the public policy area of their choice with the General Public Policy Fellowship. The Fellowship offers a monthly stipend with health insurance. Participants are able to work in such areas as international affairs, economic development, education policy, housing, or local government. Placements include congressional offices, federal agencies, Washington-based media, corporate federal affairs offices, national advocacy organizations, and government-related institutions.
For more information on the fellowship, visit http://www.chci.org/chciyouth/fellowship/fellowship.htm.
