INDEX Version 9.2 Released
Criterion Planners
Criterion Planners announces Release 9.2 of INDEX, the nation's leading support software for integrated land-use and transportation planning. Over 150 organizations in 36 states are working for smart growth and sustainable development with the help of INDEX and its measurement of their communities and plans.
The 9.2 release of INDEX enables operation with any of ESRI's latest ArcGIS 9.2 platforms. The upgrade also includes an expanded indicators menu, and a new visioning function that allows users to stack the digital equivalent of growth chips or legos until a growth forecast has been fully allocated. Indicators are then scored and scenarios are ranked by degree of goal achievement.
"It's an exciting time to help communities with this kind of tool," says Thom York, Criterion's project manager for INDEX upgrades. "For example, measuring the carbon footprint of alternative neighborhood designs is a timely and powerful example of thinking globally and acting locally with the tool. It's great to see INDEX make a difference in decision-making on key issues of sustainability."
Introduced in 1994, INDEX has been applied across North America in support of land-use and transportation planning, neighborhood design, transit station planning, climate change analysis, and regional growth management. The tool is available from Criterion in standard and custom versions, or it can be applied on a consulting basis by Criterion if analysis, but not software, is desired.
