Learn Innovative Affordable Housing Strategies & Effective Ways To Involve Young People In Planning
Rutgers University, Bloustein Online Continuing Education Program
Our next set of courses focus on innovative approaches to promoting quality affordable housing and effective ways to engage youth in planning. Affordable Housing Strategies and Youth Participation: Giving Young People a Place at the Planning Table run from May 30 to July 7 (Students taking vacations during that time will get extra time to complete the course)
And there is still time to register for Developer's Toolbox: Retail Market Analysis and Arts and Cultural Development: Gaining the Benefits of the Creative Economy. You can register for either of these courses until May 26.
Affordable Housing Strategies provides planning and policy professionals with a good overview of the issues involved in promoting quality housing for low and moderate income people. The course reviews the history of housing policy, the impact of community development corporations, challenges of mixed income housing, and the growth of public/private partnerships.
The instructor, Michael Skrebutenas, Director of Modernization Planning and Redevelopment for the Bridgeport (CT) Housing Authority, has a wealth of affordable housing experience in both the nonprofit and public sectors.
Youth Participation: Giving Young People a Place at the Planning Table explores effective ways at planning with children and teens. Students in this course will explore best practices and develop their own plan for public participation by young people. The instructor, Dawn Jourdan, an Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University, has a wide range of expertise, which includes land use law and smart growth.
