Fast Forward >> Toward A Design And Politics for Metroburbia >> cityLAB SYMPOSIUM - May 18, 2007
cityLAB, Dept of Architecture and Urban Design
Chastened by the reputed failures of modernism, architects and urbanists have been limited to imagining the contemporary North American city largely through the inadequate means of retrospective preservation and ad hoc policy. Consequently, they have been signally unable to confront the challenges of disaster (e.g. 9/11, Katrina) and unwilling to comprehend the unlikely manifestations of success (e.g. Las Vegas, Orange County). This symposium and panel discussion aims to instigate a proactive architecture and urbanism after the passing of traditional town planning, visionary utopian design, and the master plan.

Time: 3-6 pm, Friday May 18
