Mayors' Institute on City Design: Twenty Years of Shaping Civic Design
For twenty years, the Mayors' Institute on City Design (MICD) has endeavored to help mayors make the most of their powerful role in the design and development of their cities. Over 700 mayors have attended MICD sessions to date, influencing countless civic projects across the country.
Please join us for a discussion with MICD Founder, Mayor Joseph Riley, Jr. of Charleston, South Carolina, Mayor David Cicilline of Providence, Rhode Island, Mayor Frank Cownie of Des Moines, Iowa, and other alumni mayors, who will speak about the impact that MICD had on their leadership style and the physical shape of their cities. The mayors will discuss development issues currently facing American cities and the role that the MICD can play in helping public officials shape their cities through design. The evening's panel discussion will be moderated by Paul Goldberger, architecture critic of The New Yorker magazine. Dana Gioia, Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, will also address the audience.
The Mayors' Institute on City Design is a partnership program of the National Endowment for the Arts, the American Architectural Foundation, and the United States Conference of Mayors. The American Architectural Foundation would also like to thank the National Building Museum for their generous in-kind support of this event.
This event will be held on December 13, 2006 5:30pm-7:00pm, at the National Building Museum at 401 F. Street, Washington, DC 20001.
