A Note To Directors And Managers About Training And Development
Rutgers University, Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy
Dear colleague,
A great way to enhance your organization's performance is to offer your staff training and development opportunities. Professionals who learn can better adapt to the challenges and dynamics of our field. Workers given learning opportunities are likely to be better motivated and committed – which can lead to better performance. But with so many choices, directors and managers wonder whether a particular program is a good investment. I hope we can show that the Bloustein Online Continuing Education Program (BOCEP) provides excellent value at a reasonable price.
BOCEP, produced by Rutgers University's Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy, offers various online courses for professionals in planning, development and policy. From September to May, you can take courses in community and economic development, leadership and management, planning law and legal issues, smart growth and sustainable development, and urban design and placemaking. You can participate in any course from virtually any computer with an Internet connection, and there are no scheduled meetings. BOCEP courses are NOT "webinars" or "self-paced." They are interactive and taught by seasoned professionals and expert researchers. Professionals from around the United States (and sometimes other countries) get up-to-date knowledge, engage in discussions, work on problems, and learn ideas and techniques to help them become more effective.
We've served more than 170 professionals – including many executives, directors and managers like yourself – and more than 90% of students surveyed said they would recommend BOCEP to their colleagues. A vast majority said their course(s) met or exceeded their expectations, that they learned a great deal, and that the BOCEP teaching model helped them learn the material.
BOCEP courses are 5 ½ weeks long. BOCEP students must pass their course to receive a Letter of Completion. They must pass three courses to get a Certificate. Courses are taught at a graduate school level.
Each course is $260, but there are discounts of $25 to $100 per course.

Sincerely,
Leonardo Vazquez, AICP/PP
