Chicago Region Selects INDEX To Support Plan Implementation

Criterion Planners

The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) has selected INDEX planning software to support implementation of the agency's award-winning 2040 Regional Framework Plan. The plan envisions regional centers, multi-modal transportation corridors, and conservation areas across a fast-growing region of six counties, 270 municipalities, and 8 million people.

CMAP advocates community-based regionalism and will use INDEX to empower localities with grass-roots implementation tools. This will include interactive educational workshops for planning commissions, and digital charrettes for local officials engaged in regional centers scenario-building.

INDEX is a suite of interactive GIS tools for creating, measuring, and ranking community and regional scenarios. It is the most widely-used planning support software in the U.S., with over 140 agencies in 35 states equipped with the tool.

In addition to the Chicago project, INDEX is currently supporting growth visioning for the Florida Department of Community Affairs, climate change impact modeling for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, general plan updating for Santa Barbara California, and smart growth advocacy for the Natural Resources Defense Council.
