ACD seeks to convene community designers to share their experiences in community-based participatory practice, and collectively explore the legacy of work done under the mantra of "community design."
The Association for Community Design's 2006 Annual Conference, "Telling Stories: Reflections on Community Design," will reflect upon the personal stories that have enriched the practice of community design, and have contributed to a growing community design movement--over 30 years in the making.
LOCATION: National Center for the Preservation of Democracy/Japanese American National Museum, 111 N. Central Ave., downtown Los Angeles.
KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Ray Suarez, Senior Correspondent for NewsHour with Jim Lehrer and author of The Old Neighborhood: What We Lost in the Great Suburban Migration 1966-1999.
SPECIAL EVENTS:
ACD, which is a network of individuals, organizations, and institutions committed to increasing the capacity of planning and design professions to better serve communities, has hosted annual conferences on community design since its inception in 1977. The conference is expected to attract a diversity of participants, including urban planners, designers, policymakers and academics.
