International Economic Development Council 2005 Annual Conference

IEDC

The Global Economy is Here ... Now What? More than 1,000 economic development professionals will gather at the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) 2005 Annual Conference in Chicago September 25-28 to explore this question. This four-day event will draw representatives from around the world making this conference the premier international event of the year for economic development professionals. This is your opportunity to build relationships with peers in the field, understand leading trends, learn solutions to current challenges and take home ideas to your community.

This year's program is the most comprehensive IEDC has ever presented, with over 40 sessions and 100 speakers. Session tracks are: real estate development, neighborhood development, international development, best practices, and economic future trends. The program also includes several professional development training seminars and a free pre-conference session on how to attract retail chains to your community.

This year's keynote speakers include Richard Karlgaard, Publisher of Forbes Magazine, who will discuss technology, entrepreneurship, regional economic development, and the future of business and work. Drs. Danuta Hübner, Commissioner for Regional Policy for the European Commission, and Saskia Sassen, Ralph Lewis Professor of Sociology at the University of Chicago and Centennial Visiting Professor at the London School of Economics will be joined by Deputy Prime Minister Richard McCarthy to discuss their perspectives on the global economy. Paul Laudicina of AT. Kearney, Inc. will discuss his new book "World Out of Balance" which offers an in-depth analysis of the five drivers shaping an ever-changing business world: globalization, demographics, consumer needs, natural resources and environment, and regulation and activism, and how they relate to global economic development.
