Learn more about redevelopment law and legal strategies this summer
Rutgers University, Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy
When revitalization or traditional economic development strategies won't work, planners need to consider redevelopment. Planners working in urban or older suburban communities deal with redevelopment, and it is not usually easy.
If you want a convenient way to build your knowledge in redevelopment, please consider taking Redevelopment Law & Legal Strategies. It's an online course offered by Rutgers University's Bloustein Online Continuing Education for Planners program from July 11 to August 15.
You can learn from an expert – David G. Roberts, AICP/PP, CLA – as well as other planners in the class. Roberts is a Principal at Schoor DePalma and author of The Redevelopment Handbook. There are no scheduled class meetings and you can participate from any computer with an Internet connection.
Redevelopment Law & Legal Strategies covers such issues as designating areas for redevelopment; alternatives to redevelopment; dealing with legal challenges; comparing strategies; and working with developers. Planners can read and discuss case study plans.
Though the cases involve New Jersey communities, planners will find the lessons apply anywhere in the United States. New Jersey is a center of innovative urban and suburban planning. Here you will find Radburn (the first automobile suburb) and some of the most progressive affordable housing strategies in the United States. Rutgers University's Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy is a key center for learning and research in planning.
Redevelopment Law & Legal Strategies is one of three courses BOCEP is offering in July. We are also offering Strategic Planning and Implementation and Transportation Planning for Placemaking.
More than 60 planners and planning officials have enrolled in BOCEP courses this Spring. Here's what Arthur Ientilucci, Director of Zoning for the City of Rochester, New York said about his class:
"I'm hoping to have other members of my staff take these courses This really fit in with my very busy schedule and gave me the opportunity to think a lot and learn more than I would have if the only choice was an on-location course."
