Build better collaborations, learn about trends in planning law through Bloustein Online Continuing Education for Planners
Rutgers University Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy
This spring and summer, you can learn to avoid critical mistakes in building alliances and partnerships, get up to speed on changes in planning law, or learn urban design skills. And you don't have to take time off or travel anywhere. Rutgers University's Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy offers online courses that you can participate in at your convenience from any computer with an Internet connection.
Bloustein Online Continuing Education for Planners (BOCEP) offers six courses in planning law, urban design and placemaking and leadership and management between June and August. Each course is five weeks long and is taught by a leading professional and expert in the subject. Instructors encourage peer learning, so planners can learn from each other, as well as from instructors. The students include planning professionals at all levels from around the United States.
Courses are designed for planning professionals, including practicing planners, planning officials, and other related professionals. Each course costs $250, but there are discounts up to $100 for members of the American Planning Association New York Metro and New Jersey chapters, Bloustein alumni, and members of New Jersey Planning Officials and Association of Metropolitan Planning Organizations. Planetizen subscribers receive a $50 discount per course if they use Promotion Code: PLAN507.
Current Trends in Land Use Law helps planners understand and approach major laws and legal trends that affect planning practice today. Students will get in-depth analysis on such issues as the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act, the Telecommunications Act of 1996, signage regulations, and redevelopment regulations.
Managing Risk in Partnerships helps professionals build more effective teams, alliances or partnerships. Poorly created and poorly managed collaborations can lead to stifling inaction, massive inefficiencies, power struggles, and bitterness and cynicism from unrealistic expectations. This course helps students identify and address the five biggest challenges in creating and managing partnerships.
Urban Design helps students explore urban design concepts and techniques. Students will consider how functional and aesthetic concerns are intertwined and can be viewed through planning goals.
