The focus of the 2004 Institute is Innovative Community Planning. This includes workshops about renewable energies, green construction, cohousing and cooperative housing as alternatives of affordable housing, visitability design, traffic calming, ecological footprints, innovative planning laws, watershed modeling and use in developing community vision, rural planning, sustainable design, intergovernmental cooperation on subdivision design, alternative mode of transportation-bicycle, and community art and culture. Maxine Griffith, Executive Director of the Philadelphia Planning Commission, will give the 2004 Louis B. Wetmore lecture in conjunction with the institute.
Richard Florida, Carnegie Mellon University and author of Creative Class, is scheduled to be the featured speaker on 5 March in conjunction with the institute.
Jim Bouton, author of Foul Ball, will be the preinstitute speaker on 3 March.
