Techniques of Traditional Neighborhood Development II: Case Study Critiques of Built Developments
December 4 - 6, 2003; Miami, Florida
Presented by The Seaside Institute and Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk, Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company
The Seaside Institute has offered a course on the theory of the New Urbanism, the Technique of Traditional Neighborhood Development, for the past several years. These seminars have become progressively more focused as the projects have been built, but they remain theoretical. Now there is substantial feedback from those who have taken the first course and those projects designed and built over the last 12 years. Our latest seminar, Techniques of Traditional Neighborhood Development II: Case Study Critiques of Built Developments, is an advanced seminar involving the designers and developers of the first generation of New Urbanist communities. Using the case study method, we will look in detail at five developments; Birkdale Village, Habersham, Kentlands, Masphee Commons, and Southern Village. Each session will involve in-depth presentations of projects, followed by extensive audience interaction.
