Crandall Arambula -- Revitalizing Cities Series
Crandall Arambula, PC
Crandall Arambula, a nationally-recognized city and regional planning, urban design, and architecture firm, has developed an educational series on revitalizing cities and urban centers. Each one-page piece in this series covers the key elements required and outlines the steps and products needed to revitalize cities. The first five topics include:
• Downtown Plans
• Station Area Plans
• Pedestrian Friendly Streets
• Public Involvement
• Design Guidelines
The first of this series, Downtown Plans, underscores the importance of developing a revitalization plan. In the past, this process has not been clearly defined. Often, plans are ineffective because they:
• Have a limited scope
• Do not include meaningful public involvement
• Do not explore a full range of revitalization possibilities
• Do not provide realistic implementation strategies with priority catalyst projects
Based on the highly-acclaimed television series Back from the Brink produced by the American Architectural Foundation that documents the remarkable turn around of three American cities, this page on Downtown Plans depicts the actions necessary to bring city centers to life.
