Planning and the Black Community Division of APA Holds Retreat in Charlotte, North Carolina
Planning and the Black Community Division of APA
The Planning in the Black Community Division (PBCD) of the American Planning Association exists to provide a forum for planners, administrators, public officials, students, and other APA members to address issues of significance to the Black community. On August 15 – 17, 2002 PBCD will retreat to the SouthPark Suite Hotel, in Charlotte, North Carolina. During the retreat, attendees will engage in reflective dialogue and exercises regarding planning issues effecting people of color as well as provide valuable tools for preparing PBCD membership for the challenges of this decade. It will also offer an opportunity to share and learn from other professionals nationally and become engaged in meaningful dialogue and discussion that will help us face the future.
The retreat will consist of concurrent sessions on Friday through the first session on Saturday morning, which will address the following issues: Smart Growth, Preservation & Culture, Environment and Transportation, Urban Design, Community Development and Housing. Saturday sessions will address Social Equity, the Prison Industrial Complex, and Partnerships, Membership and Professional Development. The final session Saturday afternoon will be dedicated to a dialogue focusing on the mission of PBCD.
