New Urban News to offer Smart Growth Seminar for Planners

On February 20, 2002, at 2 pm EST, New Urban News will sponsor "Smart Growth for Municipal Planners," a 90-minute interactive audio conference with Rick Bernhardt, executive director of Nashville's Metropolitan Planning Department, and Bob Melvin, Director of Planning for Washington Township, NJ. Bernhardt and Melvin--who have extensive experience implementing smart growth principles--will discuss: building a smart growth staff; partnering with the development community; overcoming political challenges; using master plans, ordinances, and design overlays to achieve smart growth; procuring county, state, and federal funds; engaging the community in the debate; operating successful design charrettes; incentivizing smart growth; and more.
