Planning-Oriented Public Relations and Marketing Workshops Offered This Fall
American Planning Association
An interactive, one-day workshop for planners who want to learn how to build greater public
support for planning. The course will cover everything from conducting market research
and developing media contacts to marketing your department, agency or private practice. Course material
includes 10 planning-related case histories and examples; interactive sessions using examples from workshop
participants; and more than 100 story ideas and tips to publicize planning.
Presenting the workshops are New York-based public relations consultant Marc Breslav and American
Planning Association Public Affairs Coordinator Denny Johnson. Mr. Breslav is founder of a leading public
relations, marketing and advertising firm and a former faculty member of the Business and the Environment
Program at New York University's Management Institute. Mr. Johnson is a former daily newspaper reporter and
editor, and has more than 20 years experience with state and national nonprofit organizations involving
publications and media relations.
The workshop will be held in five different cities: New York City, Sept. 10; Las Vegas, Nev.,
Sept. 24; Rock Island, Ill., Oct. 3; Lowell, Mass., Oct. 4-5; and Houston, Texas, Oct. 24.
