Resources and Regulatory Constraints to Growth Conference
USC Lusk Center For Real Estate, Urban Land Institute Los Angeles
On Thursday, September 13, 2001, the Urban Land Institute Los Angeles District Council and the USC Lusk Center for Real Estate are presenting the Southern California Real Estate Summit on "Resources and Regulatory Constraints to Growth: Strategies for Solutions" on the USC campus.
The Summit is a one-day forum designed to determine specific ways in which developers, community leaders, academics, and public officials can collaboratively resolve development and growth issues in Southern California.
The heart of the Summit will be smaller interactive sessions during which
participants will identify common ground and commit to strategies or action
items and to provide leadership on these growth issues. The sessions will
focus on entitlement reform, jobs/housing balance, water and power, and
urban quality of life. Each working session will have an equal mix of
policy makers representing different perspectives. The concurrent working
sessions will run twice from 9:40 -11:40a.m. and 12:40 - 2:35p.m. giving
each person the opportunity to participate in two sessions. In late August
prior to the Summit, participants will receive executive summaries on
entitlement reform, jobs/housing balance, water and power, and urban quality
of life. These executive summaries will provide the background for the
working session discussions.
Three actions or solutions from each working session will be reported at the
closing General Session. Respondents Kevin Starr, State Librarian and USC
University Professor and Gary Hunt, Senior Advisor, The Irvine Company, will
summarize and react to the conclusions reached in the working sessions.
The morning General Session will focus on What five critical actions need
to be taken in the next year to assure that the future of the greater LA area is economically vital, environmentally healthy, and provides equal
opportunities?
Gary M. Cusumano, President and CEO, The Newhall Land and
Farming Company; Rick Cole, City Manager, City of Azusa; and Will Rogers,
President, The Trust for Public Land will approach this question from the
development, government and environment perspectives.
The ULI/USC Lusk Center Southern California Real Estate Summit has been designed to amplify the leverage we can collectively bring to solving our
region's growth issues. If we are to be successful in collaboratively
resolving development and growth issues, we need your involvement. Please
join the search for common ground.
