New Website Details Homeless Information In Los Angeles
Weingart Center Association
Now available at www.weingart.org are research publications from the Institute for the Study of Homelessness and Poverty (WCA's non-profit, non-partisan research and policy group), including the "Just The Facts" briefing reports. The website also contains searchable Catalogs of reports, articles, publications, websites, and organizations related to homelessness and poverty plus a calendar of community events.
"Our hope is that the website will serve to educate government, business, policy makers, the media and the general public about homelessness and poverty in Los Angeles," said Paul Tepper, Director of the Institute, "There are an estimated 84,000 men, women and children who are homeless and over 1.5 million people who live below the poverty line in Los Angeles. These are very real problems that need to be addressed. And that begins by getting the facts. The website provides an easy to use pathway to accurate, reliable reports, academic literature, statistics and other resources."
In addition to Institute research, visitors to the website can also learn about the programs and services the Weingart Center offers to "break the cycle of homelessness." Included is information on residential programs for homeless men and women, alcohol and drug recovery programs, HIV & AIDS care, veterans services, and the GED and job training classes offered at the new Thomas and Dorothy Leavey Learning and Employment Center in partnership with the Los Angeles Unified School District.
Opened in 1983, the Weingart Center is the largest health and human services complex in Southern California, and serves as a model for the rest of the nation.
