Greyhound is shedding stations around the country, but Chicago intercity bus passengers will still be able to use the city’s main bus terminal — for now.
Intercity bus passengers in Chicago could still access Flixbus trips at the city’s main bus terminal — for now. As Dan Zukowski reports in Smart Cities Dive, the company is finalizing a month-to-month lease so it can continue service on the site.
According to a Flix spokesperson, “This is a temporary solution, and we remain actively engaged with the city and other stakeholders to secure a long-term home for intercity bus service in Chicago.” Flix-owned Greyhound’s lease at Chicago’s terminal is set to expire, and other intercity bus companies like Megabus have filed for bankruptcy in recent months.
Intercity bus services have taken a major hit in the United States, and Greyhound is now selling off much of its real estate holdings. Zukowski points out that “The impact of reduced intercity bus service would hit hardest low-income riders, students, older adults and others who can’t afford or don’t want to fly.”
