Gov. Hochul’s plans include the long-awaited Second Avenue Subway extension.
In her State of the State address, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced plans to extend the Second Avenue Subway (SAS) and Interborough Express, build an MTA Infrastructure Hub, and boost fare enforcement efforts. The SAS would provide connections with seven subway lines and over 20 bus lines and could serve roughly 240,000 daily commuters.
According to an article by Daniel Roche in The Architect’s Newspaper, “In 2017, phase one of the SAS extension opened with three Q Train stations located after 63rd Street. The announcement Hochul made this week marks the start of phase two of the Extension, which would add three more ADA-accessible stations after 96th Street, adding new stops at 106th Street, 116th Street, and 125th Street in Harlem.” The Interborough Express would add orbital service connecting Brooklyn and Queens using a defunct freight line.
