In Pennsylvania, a church experiments with a permeable green lot.
A church in Erie County, Pennsylvania recently completed construction of an alternative type of parking lot. Supported by funds from The Growing Greener Program, part of the Environmental Stewardship and Watershed Protection Act, the congregation installed a kind of permeable pavement known as Geoweb®. The local watersheds lead directly into Lake Erie, which has had its water quality as the focus of a multitude of local, regional, national, and international organizations and governments for the past 25 years...the hybrid combination of impervious and permeable surfaces is expected to provide integral infiltration, minimize stormwater runoff, enhance groundwater recharge, and protect the Mill Creek watershed.
