One additional round trip a day will have to do, because adding three new trips proved too many for suburban communities located long the route in Illinois.

"Amtrak is planning an additional round trip between Chicago and Milwaukee on its popular Hiawatha line in the next three years, raising the number of daily trips from seven to eight," reports Mary Wisniewski.
"The additional daily route is possible because of infrastructure improvements on the Wisconsin side, said Arun Rao, passenger rail manager for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation," according to Wisniewski.
Amtrak could have added even more service to the line, but local opposition from the cities of Lake Forest and Glenview caused the Illinois Department of Transportation not to fund a project that would add the necessary side tracks to handle new service capacity.
