Sidewalk Labs recently revealed the latest version of its plans for Quayside, the waterfront neighborhood in Toronto the company has been tasked with making over in a "smart city" test bed.

Patrick Sisson reports on the details of the updated plans by Sidewalk Labs ("the urban innovation unit of Alphabet, Google’s parent company"), describing the effort as a "bottom-up reimagining of tech’s place in urban living."

To achieve that "bottom-up" ideal, "the updated plan enshrines the idea of a Civic Data Trust for all urban data," according to Sisson.

Two other big ideas addressed by Sisson include the plan's proposals for the largest mass timber development in the world and a "people-first public realm."
