The city of Eugene, Oregon eliminated minimum parking requirements earlier this month, in keeping with the Oregon Land Conservation and Development Commission’s Climate-Friendly and Equitable Communities plan, which calls on cities to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, reports Billy Spotz for NBC 16.

Spotz adds, “While these rules were made in order to help address climate change - one less hurdle for businesses, developers, and so on - they could also open the door for those looking to move a business into Eugene down the line.”

The Eugene rule is one of the few to include a parking maximum, meaning there will be an upper limit on how large lots can be. It also requires parking lots of certain sizes to install solar panel canopies or plant trees, according to a KLCC article.
