Arlington County is updating the bicycle element of its Master Transportation Plan, last updated in 2008.

The draft update names safety, connectivity, and accessibility as overarching goals for the county's bike network, Alex Koma reports in Arl Now. It calls for 26 new pieces of cycling infrastructure, including trails, street lanes, and "bike boulevards" that avoid busy roads.

"Among the bigger asks are requests for the renovation of the entirety of the W&OD Trail as it runs through Arlington, and the portion of the Four Mile Run Trail south of W. Glebe Road, totaling about 5.5 miles in all," Koma reports. The article goes on to describe other major proposals included the update, noting that a lack of funding may preclude or postpone implementation for some of them.

The draft document is currently open to public comment.
