$1.3 million in federal funding will contribute to a plan for three electric buses for Madison.

"Metro Transit has been awarded $1.3 million in federal funding to help buy three battery-powered buses in 2019," Bill Novak writes for the Wisconsin State Journal. These buses would be purchased as part of a plan to expand and update the Madison bus fleet. "The buses would come from Proterra, a company that has sold more than 400 zero-emission buses to 38 bus systems in 20 states," Novak writes.
These Proterra Catalyst buses have lower costs per mile to operate, according to Novak's reporting, and would be completely silent while idling, though they do have a more expensive initial price.
