Planetizen Wins Innovative Use Of Technology Award From American Planning Association, Los Angeles
Urban Insight, Inc.
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Urban Insight, an Internet consulting firm specializing in web technologies to benefit urban planning, was awarded the 2001 Innovative Use of Technology award by the American Planning Association, Los Angeles for the development of Planetizen (www.planetizen.com), a web-based information exchange for the urban planning and development community.
"Planetizen has become a standard source of planning news and topics not only for planners throughout California and the U.S. but also worldwide. Planners can now easily post information and announcements as well. It is being given the Innovative Use of Technology Award because of its creative use of the internet and its increasing popularity among planners and those interested in planning information," said Stanley Hoffman, president of Stanley R. Hoffman Associates, and one of the 12 judges that evaluated nominees and selected Planetizen.
Urban Insight and Planetizen were honored at an awards ceremony attended by over 100 planners at the architecturally-significant Conjunctive Points development in Culver City, CA. Other winners included the Honorable Cindy Miscikowski for her significant contribution to excellence in public planning and the City of Pasadena's Civic Center & Mid-Town District Design Plan.
Planetizen was created for professional urban planners and developers as a one-stop source for urban planning and development headline news, editorial commentary, job opportunities, and events. Planetizen also publishes a free, twice-weekly email newsletter with the week's most popular planning stories and is available for delivery on handheld devices.
Urban Insight is a Los Angeles-based consulting firm founded in 1997 to provide Internet strategies and web development services to the urban planning community. Urban Insight is a member of the technology incubator EC2 -- the Annenberg Incubator Project at the University of Southern California (USC). Urban Insight's clients include the University of Southern California, the California Center for Regional Leadership, the Urban Land Institute Los Angeles, and the Southern California Transportation and Land Use Coalition.
