1 July 2008 - 8:14am

If you are interested in reading the research project or looking pictures representing some critical aspect of the urban area you can download it from
http://www.mastermapaus.it/Pages/Edizioni/Edizione05/edizione05frames.ht...
You need to direct the mouse at the bottom of the page and to click on “PROGETTO DI TESI: Alex Marini”
The thesis is written in Spanish and if you can’t read it you can at least have a look at the pictures (second part).

The thesis analyzes modalities and forms of La Paz’s urban growth and articulates a proposal for the public policies of next years. The methodology mainly approaches the outlines of the qualitative investigation (interviews, pictures, participating observation, descriptions, articles, maps, etc.) with occasional contributions from quantitative methods. The processes of understanding and interpretation of the reality are based on an inter and trans-disciplinarily approach. The work is not subjected to previous studies, but rather, it is fruit of a personal experience in the city for a four months period, among December 2007 and March 2008. The proposal and the conclusions of the thesis focus the attention on the necessity to attribute to the public institutions a more active role in the territorial policies in order to generate a sustainable development that produces collective benefits and guarantees private interests.

Personal experience in the city

In November 2007 I went to BCS for a internship period at the Municipal Development Office of the Council of La Paz. I didn’t actually go many times to the office because of the inutile effort of going there but I could observe the situation from a privileged point of view.
I investigated the socioeconomic, political and environmental situation of the city from the perspective of an Italian student graduated in sociology and with a specialization in urban planning.
