Small Residential Wind Turbines
Submitted by jrohr on 18 March 2008 - 9:12am.
Has anyone had experience in dealing with small (50-100') wind turbines within residential or individual commercial developments? These types of towers would supply energy to one structure or possibly a small group of structures. I would be interested if anyone has an ordinance dealing with such structures. If they are allowed, what type of experiences, good or bad, have you had?
Thanks in advance for any information you may have!

We've had one so far...
... we also used the CUP process with minimal restrictions (on a 2.5 acre lot), basically the fall zone needed to be on the property. The only neighbor complaint we've had is since wind is not constant, the sound of the "motor" goes up and down (high and low), sounding like a siren.

Small Wind Regulation
Not sure if you're still interested since its been a while since you posted. If you are, E-mail me and I can shoot you my DRAFT small wind ordinance (or anyone else that is interested). I was asked to put together some regulations because our City doesn't currently have any in place, and we treat them all case-by-case with a CUP. I wrote the DRAFT ordinance with some "common-sense" regulations that are simple, and not overly onerous. I want to encourage wind towers, so I want it to be as easy as possible for people to comply, while still addressing public safety and welfare. I sent the draft ordinance to a local wind tower salesman, and he said that he didn't have any problem with any of the regulations. My E-mail is ccollins@cityofcasperwy.com

I am looking for the same information. Carroll County Maryland has just adopted the first wind turbine ordinance for Maryland.
