San Bernardino Seeks Ideas For Downtown

"The downtown area should be the signature of a city," Mayor Judith Vallessaid. "We don't have a signature right now."

Proposed changes include allowing second floorapartments over storefronts, relaxed development requirements and creating aseries of lakes and streams in the city. Strict construction standards thatwere enacted after a 1980 fire destroyed 250 homes could also be relaxed.
